Found in southern Spain, the Costa del Sol boasts one of Europe’s best climates with sunshine found here for most of the year. If you prefer the idea of something slower, the pastime of golf is extremely popular here, with more than 50 fantastic golf courses in the Costa del Sol alone. Alternatively, you can discover the unique Spanish history and culture by visiting one of the many stunning religious buildings, art galleries and museums found in the area.
Finding the perfect part of the Costa del Sol
It isn’t just the beaches and lively social scene that makes the Costa del Sol a must visit destination. The stunning rugged mountain landscapes acting as the perfect backdrop make the area popular for weddings and special occasions or events. The coastline itself is almost split into two halves with the cultural Malaga city caught in between. To the east of the city you will find a less developed coast that is quieter even during the high season, yet still offers a great mix of pretty villages, relaxing beaches and comfortable accommodation options. Here you will find the beautiful city of Nerja, home to the Nerja Caves which are a must see attraction if you’re in the area.
To the west of Malaga city you will discover the more well-known major resorts, such as Torremolinos and Marbella. Many British ex-pats live here, so there is a mix of styles, from the favourite cuisine and beverages found at home to the more traditional Spanish dishes. This side of the Costa del Sol is busy all year round, including a daily in-take of cruise travellers who come in to dock at Malaga Port, yet still makes for an unforgettable holiday in the sun.
